Lead ReliefErie fairway-wood bay

Erie · State Street · Wood slot

Relieve the long iron. Do not collect woods as souvenirs.

Lead Relief exists because a tired long iron on the peninsula is a kind of injury, and a random 3-wood from a catalog is not treatment. We decide which fairway wood — if any — earns the slot that lets the lead side stop fighting a blade from 220. Lake-effect wind sits in the room. We let it vote.

Book Relief How a slot is earned

3-wood case

Keeps a lower window through Presque Isle gusts. Dies if you will not wait on it from a tight lie.

7-wood case

Gets up in wet bay air without begging. Hates a punching lie under peninsula pines.

Perry Square is a walk. The peninsula is the job.

People fit woods in still rooms inland and then take them to Presque Isle where the air is a second player. We opened on State Street so the bay is in the building. If a wood cannot name its job in that air, it does not get the slot. The long iron may stay. Or it may retire. We do not keep both as a comfort object.

They retired my 3-iron and would not let me keep a 5-wood “just in case.” The 7-wood does the job. I was angry for a week on the peninsula and then I was not.

I thought Lead Relief was a medical office. Cosmo sold me a wood slot and a teacher’s number on 12th. Both were useful. Only one was this shop.
